What Food Styling Is All About

028.1 Lesson 01 of 08 3 quiz questions 1 assignment

Food styling is the practice of preparing food specifically for the camera — not for the plate. This is its defining characteristic and its most important ethical boundary. The food stylist is not a cook whose work is incidentally photographed; the food stylist is a visual artist whose medium is food. The skills required are culinary (the food must be made correctly), visual (the composition must be beautiful), and technical (the food must remain photogenic for long enough to capture the image).
