The Journal of Photography & Visual Arts is the peer-reviewed open-access publication of Light & Composition University Press. We publish original research from academics, scholars, students, and practitioners across every discipline that broadens our horizon of knowledge.

Articles are not limited to art or photography — we welcome scholarship in science, education, mass communication, social economics, cultural issues, comparative religion, language and linguistics, business, and management.

All accepted articles are published online and freely accessible. Authors retain copyright under a Creative Commons licence.

How to Submit

Submission Process

Three steps from abstract to publication. Average time from submission to decision: 4–6 weeks.

Submit Your Abstract
Send a structured abstract (250–300 words) including research question, methodology, key findings, and significance. Include your name, affiliation, and field.
We aim to respond to all abstract submissions within 10 working days.

Editorial Review & Payment
If your abstract is approved, you will be invited to submit the full paper. A publication fee covers peer-review coordination and open-access hosting.
Publication fee details are provided upon abstract acceptance.

Full Paper Submission
Submit your complete manuscript following author guidelines. Your paper enters double-blind peer review. The editorial team communicates the decision with reviewer feedback.
Accepted papers are published online within 2 weeks of final approval.

Author Guidelines

Preparing Your Manuscript

Please read all guidelines carefully before submitting to avoid delays in the review process.

Manuscript Requirements
  • Word count: 3,000–8,000 words (excluding references)
  • File format: Microsoft Word (.docx) or PDF
  • Font: Times New Roman 12pt, double-spaced
  • Abstract: 250–300 words with 4–6 keywords
  • All tables and figures must be numbered and captioned
  • Remove all identifying information before submission
Citations & References
  • Use APA 7th edition citation style throughout
  • All in-text citations must have a corresponding reference list entry
  • Self-citations must be anonymised for blind review
  • DOI links are required where available
  • Personal communications may be cited but not listed in references
Language & Ethics
  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, academic English
  • Non-native English speakers are encouraged to seek language editing before submission
  • All research involving human participants must have ethics approval
  • Plagiarism check is carried out on all submissions
  • AI-generated content must be disclosed and is subject to editorial review
Copyright & Open Access
  • Authors retain copyright of their published work
  • Articles published under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence
  • All published content is freely accessible with no paywall
  • Authors may share and archive their accepted manuscripts
  • Simultaneous submission to other journals is not permitted
