Cameras and Lenses for Food Photography

026.4 Lesson 04 of 08 3 quiz questions 1 assignment

The sweet spot for food photography lenses on a full-frame camera is between 35 mm and 85 mm. At 35 mm, the photographer maintains enough working distance to include context — the tablecloth, the surrounding props — without distortion. At 85 mm, the lens compresses slightly, making the dish appear more dimensional and separated from the background. Most food photographers settle on a 50 mm or 60 mm prime as their workhorse.
