Brooklyn Heights, by Chris Horner

This photo was taken in the historic neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights in New York City. It was originally shot in color, but converted to black and white. Surprisingly this gave the image more depth with the way the city lights were casting shadows on this particular block. Most of the storefronts were still open, giving even more detail than you could get during the day when you would be unable to see inside the buildings.

Photo of the Day Award Category: Black & White Photography
Photograph Location: Brooklyn Heights, New York | The United States

Photographer: Chris Horner (Ann Arbor, MI USA)
Chris Horner is a freelance photographer based in Ann Arbor, MI USA. Chris started becoming serious about photography about two years ago. His main topic of interest is in capturing urban scenes. Chris started primarily with this theme, and then carried his photography skills into another area that he loves – vehicles and racing. Others began taking notice of his work through what he shared on the web and in person. Soon he was creating fine art prints for people to enjoy in their homes and offices. That in turn got the attention of some local small business owners, who started requesting Chris to create images they could use in their marketing. Chris is looking to grow his commercial business since he has always enjoyed working with other entrepreneurs and helping business owners find success in their endeavors.

Just came across this. Lit up my heart. I grew up in NY (BK, Manhattan, BX and Queens) and some days I miss it much more than others. Your picture reminds me of everything I love about home. Thank you.

Chris! So proud of you! Your persistence is paying off! And the photo is phenomenal! It made me look at it for a while. It draws the eye to the little details in every store, like an interesting story. Very cool!

As a Brooklyn Heights resident, I find this photograph of a row of storefronts I pass daily quite a revelation. The use of interior and exterior lighting is exquisite.
