CREATIVE COMPOSITION
The aim of this course is to guide one toward creating aesthetically pleasing compositions with structure, balance, rhythm, and harmony that bind visual elements together and transform them into a meaningful photograph. Through careful understanding of form, space, light, and perspective, one gradually learns how composition shapes not only the image itself, but also the feeling and atmosphere within it.
As the many elements of photography naturally overlap, a deeper and more advanced understanding of the fundamental principles of composition not only reveals true visual insight, but also grants the ability to control the emotion, balance, and impact one wishes to express through the lens.
Course Overview
This course explores the structure of photography, the language of visual weighting, and the well-known compositional rules—along with how and when to break them while still preserving balance, rhythm, and dynamics within the frame. It examines how composition can be shaped through the rhythm and color of light, perspective, and depth of field to create the illusion of three dimensions within a two-dimensional image. The course also studies the concept of the Decisive Moment in detail, revealing how timing, observation, and awareness transform ordinary scenes into meaningful photographs, while guiding photographers on what to do when a scene appears visually unresponsive or nothing seems to work.
