Young Nuns by Ryszard Wierzbicki

During his third visit to the Angkor region of Cambodia, the photographer ventured into local villages alongside a licensed guide in search of authentic cultural narratives. While exploring the outskirts of Siem Reap, he encountered a rare and poignant sight: young girls living as Buddhist nuns. Capturing this candid moment required a keen eye for the unexpected, as such sightings are uncommon in rural Cambodia. The photograph stands out for its cultural significance and the genuine, fleeting connection between the observer and these young subjects, offering a rare glimpse into a traditional lifestyle rarely documented by outsiders.

Reflections on this Photograph
By Tom Bretherton

The Weight of Quiet

I remember sitting in a small tea house in Kyoto, watching a young novice sweep the stone courtyard. Her movements were deliberate, almost rhythmic, as if she were tracing the outline of a prayer onto the dust.

The Weight of Silence

In the quiet corners of a house, there is a specific kind of stillness that settles when the day’s chores are finished. It is not an empty silence, but one that feels heavy, as if it were holding the shape of all the words we chose not to say.
