The Words That Name and Describe
Words do two great jobs before any other — they name the world and they describe it. This course puts those two jobs at its heart, teaching the naming words and the describing words as the confident foundation of natural, expressive English.
Over eight lessons you will move from the noun and its plurals and possessives, through the many kinds of pronoun, to the adjective and its order and comparison, and finally to the adverb and where it belongs in a sentence. Throughout, the spirit is the Dean’s own: do not obsess over rules for their own sake — let them serve what you actually want to say.
Course Overview
This course is a warm, practical introduction to the four parts of speech that name and describe the world around us: the noun, the pronoun, the adjective, and the adverb.
