Do you not see how your Lord lengthens the shadow? If He had willed, He could have made it stand still– We made the sun its indicator– but We gradually draw it towards Us, little by little. (Quran, Chapter 25:45-46).

Have you noticed the length of the shadow, caused by the sun that changes its position dramatically throughout the day? Well you don’t need to go elsewhere, shadows are everywhere. When we photograph things around us, we find how dramatically shadows emphasize the emotion of a moment; sometimes it creates a surreal image, and sometimes it just changes the mood. All you need to do is look at the magnificent nature around us with little more understanding, the sun, the moon, the star, and the world we are in, created by the Almighty Allah, who created you and me, and everything in this expending universe.

In this photograph “Riding into the Sunset,” by Jon Rendell, look how powerful composition was formed because of the shadow, taking during the sunset. Look how its length casted on the ground, which is proportional to the cotangent of the sun’s elevation angle, its angle θ relative to the horizon, and it can be extremely long during sunrise and sunset, when θ is 0° and cot(θ) is infinite. Let’s think, do reasoning, and reflect, because that is why we are here. Let’s open our minds eyes to see every creation of Almighty, the Lord of this Worlds.
