The Sweetness of Patience

I spent an hour this morning trying to fix a broken drawer in the kitchen. I kept getting frustrated, pulling at the wood, until I finally just stopped and made a cup of tea instead. I sat at the table and watched the steam rise, realizing that I had been rushing through the morning without actually tasting anything. We spend so much of our lives trying to force things into place, to fix what is broken or finish what is started, that we forget the simple pleasure of just sitting with something beautiful. There is a quiet grace in slowing down, in letting the world settle into its own rhythm. It is not about the task at hand, but about the space we create to appreciate the small, delicate layers of a day. When was the last time you let yourself stop and truly savor a moment that had no purpose other than to be enjoyed?

Larisa Sferle has captured this feeling perfectly in her image titled Diplomat Cake. It reminds me that there is a quiet, deliberate beauty in the things we take the time to prepare and appreciate. Does this image make you want to slow down and linger for a while?
