Home Reflections Standing Before the Vast

Standing Before the Vast

I spent this morning trying to fix a leaky faucet in the kitchen. It was one of those small, nagging tasks that I had been putting off for weeks. I kept turning the wrench, convinced that if I just applied enough pressure, the dripping would stop. But the water kept finding its way out, steady and persistent. It made me think about how much of our lives we spend trying to contain things that are meant to be wild. We build walls, we set schedules, and we try to pin down the future, yet the world outside our windows remains entirely indifferent to our plans. There is a strange, humbling relief in realizing that we are not the ones in control of the tide. Sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is simply stand in the path of something much larger than ourselves and accept that we cannot tame it. What is the one thing in your life right now that you are finally ready to stop trying to control?

Courage by Faisal Khan

Faisal Khan has captured this feeling perfectly in his image titled Courage. It reminds me that even when we feel small against the backdrop of the world, there is a quiet power in just showing up. Does this scene make you feel small, or does it make you feel like you could face anything?
