Home Reflections A Railing Against the World

A Railing Against the World

There is a rare and gentle sanctuary in early boyhood that adulthood rarely reproduces. It is the simple privilege of standing side by side against an iron railing, watching the courtyard fill with shadow, needing nothing and expecting nothing. In those days, a friend was not a contact to be scheduled or a social obligation to maintain. A friend was a presence—a shoulder to lean on when the afternoon grew heavy, a shared look that carried whole volumes of unspoken understanding. The iron bars were cold, the air was warm, and the future had not yet begun to cast its complicated shadow.

Friend by Javed Miandad

In ‘Friend’, Javed Miandad has preserved the pure, unadorned sanctuary of companionship. At Hossaini Dalan, two young lives remind us of a bond that needs no words. Who was the friend that stood beside you like this?
