Captured during an April evening in 2010, this photograph documents a serendipitous moment in Koronadal City. As the photographer sought to capture the perfect sunset, he encountered two children flying a kite, their silhouettes framed against the fading light. Acting with urgency and discretion, he managed to document the scene candidly without disturbing the subjects. The image is award-worthy for its authentic emotional resonance and the masterful use of natural light, which elevates a simple childhood pastime into a poignant, timeless narrative of hope and connection.

In the nineteenth century, physicists often spoke of the etherβan invisible, weightless medium thought to fill the gaps between the stars, carrying light across the void. It was a beautiful, if ultimately discarded, idea. We are all, in a sense, trying to bridge our own voids.
Read the reflection →We spend our lives tethered to things we cannot hold. A kite is only a piece of paper and a frame, yet it demands a constant, invisible tension. To let go is to lose it; to hold too tight is to snap the line.
