It’s a chromatic collision that makes my heart ache, that particular, electric tension between the insect’s burning, ochre-dusted scales and the cool, shadowed emerald of the Dhaka foliage; one simply cannot look away from such a violent, beautiful, and fleeting harmony.

A zoo isn't the wilderness, and one suspects this butterfly didn't require a week of shivering in a damp hide to secure. It’s a clean shot, certainly, but it lacks the grit of a truly earned frame. It’s pretty, yes, but I’m left wondering if the photographer ever actually got their boots muddy.
