In this “Exclusive Interview” section, today we have the opportunity to talk with Ronnie Glover, as his photograph was winner of Photo of the Month – 55th Month, 1st Place. Let’s discover more about Ronnie Glover, and his forays into photography in the following interview with him.
Light & Composition: Greetings from Light & Composition, Ronnie. How does it feel being selected as the winner of Photo of the Month, 55th Month, 1st Place?
Ronnie Glover: It makes me feel thankful, honored and excited.
L&C: Your photograph “Winter” was selected as Photo of the Month, is a wonderful Black & White Photography with artistic perspective, correct lighting, and very well presented. Overall, a great composition! Tell us more about your experience of taking this photograph.
Ronnie: This image was made during the pregame festivities at a college football game that I was shooting. The temperature was in the mid teens with light snow falling. The pregame cadet formations are always interesting to me but the attire they wore that day added a sense of repetition and mystery to the photo.
L&C: Besides this winning photograph, many people liked and voted for other photographs of yours in the Photo of the Month contest. You must be proud. How do you see your journey to the world of photography so far?
Ronnie: I’ve been involved with photography for many years but it’s still an awesome journey of learning and discovering new things and new ways of seeing familiar things and sharing that with others.
L&C: As we know, you are originally from Alabama. Do you think the rich diverse cultural and artistic heritage of Alabama portrayed a different essence to you?
Ronnie: I grew up in Alabama, an area that wasn’t culturally diverse so I think that’s why I developed a desire to learn about, appreciate and visit other cultures and capture that in images. It was also an area where I grew up appreciating nature although in more subtle terms than other places that I’ve lived like Alaska, Washington, and Colorado.
L&C: Do you like a particular genre of photography and if so, why?
Ronnie: Nature and travel photography have long been my major interests. However, I grew up in an area that intensely appreciated sports and I developed that interest as well. Over the past 3 years or so, I was given the opportunity to shoot sports. The combination of my love of sports and photography has been one of the most enjoyable discoveries that I have made.
L&C: Have you ever exhibited your work? If so, then tell us about your first exhibiting experience.
Ronnie: My images have been exhibited by Southeastern Center for The Arts, The Alaska Society of Outdoor and Nature Photographers, and Crated.
L&C: What advice would you give our readers who want to take part in the journey around the world with photography?
Ronnie: Share your vision. Everyone has a unique way of seeing the world and capturing it in images.
L&C: Thank you, Ronnie, for sharing your feelings and experiences with us.
