The Words That Act and Connect
Words do more than name the world — they set it in motion, tie it together, and give it a voice.
In this course we follow four families of words — verbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections — and learn to use each one with clarity, ease, and a natural human voice.
Course Overview
“The Words That Act and Connect” is a practical study of the parts of speech that give English its motion and its glue. Across eight lessons you will explore four word families in depth: verbs, which carry action and being; prepositions, which show relationship in time, place, and direction; conjunctions, which join ideas of every size; and interjections, which let genuine emotion into your language.
Rather than memorising abstract rules, you will learn through many concrete example sentences and hands-on practice. You will discover how to find the main verb of any sentence, choose the right preposition with confidence, connect thoughts smoothly with coordinating, subordinating, and correlative conjunctions, and punctuate feeling with well-placed interjections. Each lesson ends with questions and a practical assignment so that new knowledge becomes a usable skill.
This course is for anyone who wants their English to sound natural and confident — second-language learners, teachers, writers, and lifelong students alike. It stands on its own and also pairs well with its companion, which covers the words that name and describe. No prior study is required; a willingness to read, write, and experiment with sentences is all you need.
