Standing Still in the Wind
I spent this morning trying to fix a wobbly chair in the kitchen. I kept tightening the screws, but the floor is uneven, and no matter what I did, it still tilted whenever I sat down. I eventually gave up and just left it there, leaning slightly against the wall. It made me think about how much energy we spend trying to force things to be perfectly level, perfectly still, or perfectly aligned. We want our lives to be sturdy and predictable, like furniture on a flat surface. But nature doesn’t seem to care much for our need for balance. Trees grow crooked, tides pull in directions we don’t expect, and the wind rarely blows in a straight line. Maybe there is a quiet strength in simply leaning into the slant, accepting that we don’t always have to be upright to be rooted. What would happen if we stopped trying to fix the wobble and just let ourselves exist in the tilt?

Siew Bee Lim has captured this feeling perfectly in the image titled Coconut Trees. It reminds me that even when the world feels vast and shifting, there is a certain grace in standing your ground. Does this image make you feel restless, or does it bring you a sense of calm?
