Home Reflections The Weight of the Current

The Weight of the Current

Why do we assume that the stillness of the water reflects the stillness of the soul? We often mistake the surface for the entirety of the depths, forgetting that beneath every calm expanse lies a history of currents, hidden stones, and the relentless pull of the tide. To exist is to be in constant negotiation with the forces that move us, whether they are the tides of necessity or the quiet demands of our own labor. We carry our burdens as if they were anchors, yet perhaps they are the very things that keep us from drifting into the void. There is a profound, silent language in the way a person holds their own weight against the world, a testament to the endurance required just to remain afloat. We are all, in some sense, navigating waters that were never meant to be conquered, only crossed. If the journey is the only thing that truly belongs to us, what remains when the oars finally rest?

The Boatman by Rahat Azim Chowdhury

Rahat Azim Chowdhury has captured this quiet endurance in his beautiful image titled The Boatman. It serves as a gentle reminder of the dignity found in the simple act of moving forward. Does this scene stir a sense of peace or a longing for the shore in you?
