The Hidden Pulse
I was weeding the garden this morning, pulling at stubborn bits of grass that seem to grow back the moment I turn my head. My knees were aching against the damp soil, and I was feeling quite impatient with the whole process. Then, I leaned in close to inspect a leaf I had nearly torn away. I stopped. I had never really looked at the veins running through it, or the way the light seemed to be trapped inside the green, pulsing like a tiny, quiet heart. It felt like I had stumbled upon a secret map of the world that had been sitting right under my nose the entire time. We spend so much of our lives looking at the big picture, the horizon, the grand plans, that we forget the tiny, intricate machinery that keeps everything breathing. It makes me wonder how many other miracles are hiding in plain sight, waiting for us to just slow down and get a little dirt on our hands. What have you overlooked today?

Callum Honeybun has captured this feeling perfectly in his image titled Photo-synthesis. It reminds me that there is an entire universe tucked away in the smallest corners of our gardens. Does this view change how you look at the plants in your own backyard?
