The Ritual of the Table

To whoever is reading this, I have been thinking about the way we feed ourselves. It is rarely just about hunger, is it? There is a quiet, sacred rhythm to the way we prepare a plate, the way we choose to slow down when the world demands we rush. We treat our meals as if they are small, fleeting ceremonies. Perhaps it is because we are searching for a bit of grace in the middle of a long day. When you sit down to eat, do you notice the weight of the tools in your hand, or the way the light catches the steam rising from a bowl? We spend so much of our lives consuming, but rarely do we stop to witness the beauty of the act itself. It is in these tiny, deliberate movements that we find a sense of belonging, a way to anchor ourselves to the present. If we paid more attention to the small things, would we finally learn how to be still?

The Art of Sushi by Keshia Sophia

Keshia Sophia has captured this beautifully in her work titled The Art of Sushi. She reminds us that even the simplest meal can be a performance of care and intention. Does this image make you want to slow down your own next meal?
