Threads of Belonging

I was walking through the local farmers’ market this morning, feeling a bit invisible in my oversized coat. Everyone seemed to be moving in their own private orbits, clutching bags of produce and checking their phones. Then, I saw a group of three friends walking toward me, all wearing the same bright, patterned scarves. They were laughing at something one of them said, their movements perfectly synchronized, as if they were tethered by an invisible string. For a second, the noise of the market faded. I realized how much we crave that sense of belonging—the comfort of being part of a whole, of having a visual language that says, ‘I am with them, and they are with me.’ It is a quiet kind of armor against the world. We spend so much of our lives trying to stand out, but perhaps the deepest peace comes from knowing exactly where you fit in. Do you have a group or a place that makes you feel that same sense of effortless unity?

Tribal Women in a Carnival by Amey Kant

Amey Kant has captured this beautiful feeling in his image titled Tribal Women in a Carnival. It reminds me so much of that moment in the market, where the shared colors and presence create a story of their own. Does this image make you think of your own community?
