The Weight of Gold

I spent twenty minutes this morning trying to find my keys, only to realize they were in the pocket of the coat I wore yesterday. I felt foolish, standing there in the hallway while the sun poured through the front door, turning the dust motes into tiny, floating stars. It is funny how we spend so much of our lives looking for things we have already tucked away. We rush through our days, eyes fixed on the next task, the next deadline, the next worry, completely missing the way the light hits the floorboards or the quiet brilliance of a single, ordinary thing. Sometimes, the world is trying to show us something bright and steady, but we are too busy searching for what we think we need. If we just stopped moving for a second, would we see that the warmth we are looking for is already right in front of us? What is it that you usually miss when you are in a hurry?

Sun-Day by Kamal Mostofi

Kamal Mostofi has captured this feeling perfectly in his image titled Sun-Day. It reminds me to slow down and notice the quiet glow in the corners of my own life. Does this image make you want to pause for a moment, too?
