Home Reflections The Quiet Between Us

The Quiet Between Us

I was sitting on the porch this morning, watching two neighbors talk across the fence. They weren’t saying much. Mostly, they just stood there, leaning against the wood, occasionally nodding at something only they seemed to understand. It struck me how rare that kind of silence is. We spend so much of our lives trying to fill the gaps with words, explanations, and noise, terrified that if we stop talking, the connection might fray. But watching them, I realized that the strongest ties don’t actually need a soundtrack. They exist in the spaces where we don’t have to prove anything or perform for one another. It is a strange, beautiful relief to simply be near someone and know that you are both anchored in the same quiet moment. When was the last time you felt perfectly understood without a single word being spoken?
