The Earth Breathes
I burned my toast this morning. It was a small, stupid mistake, but as the smoke curled up toward the ceiling, I found myself just standing there, watching it drift. It felt like a tiny, domestic rebellion against the routine of my kitchen. We spend so much of our lives trying to keep things contained—the fire in the toaster, the schedule on the wall, the expectations we set for ourselves. We want everything to be predictable and safe. But there is a wildness that exists just beneath the surface of our quiet lives, a force that doesn’t care about our plans or our burnt breakfast. Sometimes, the world reminds us that it is alive, shifting and restless, and that we are merely guests here. It is a humbling, terrifying thought, isn’t it? To realize that the ground we walk on has a pulse of its own, one that beats far slower and much deeper than our own frantic hearts.

Sergiy Kadulin has captured this raw, restless energy in his image titled Volcano Eruption. It serves as a powerful reminder of the earth’s hidden strength. Does seeing such a display of nature make you feel small, or does it make you feel more alive?
