Home Reflections The Road Behind Us

The Road Behind Us

I spent this morning cleaning out my hallway closet. It is one of those tasks I have been putting off for months, mostly because I knew I would have to face the boxes of old journals and receipts I keep tucked away. As I pulled out a stack of notebooks, I found myself sitting on the floor for an hour, just reading entries from three years ago. It is strange how we spend so much of our lives looking toward the next week, the next project, or the next milestone. We are always leaning forward, chest out, eyes fixed on the horizon. But sitting there, surrounded by the dust of my own past, I realized that the most important parts of my journey were not the ones I was currently planning. They were the paths I had already walked, the ones that shaped the person sitting on the floor today. Sometimes, looking back isn’t about regret; it is about finally seeing the shape of the climb.

Life in the Mountains by Dipanjan Mitra

Dipanjan Mitra has captured this feeling perfectly in his image titled Life in the Mountains. It reminds me that there is so much wisdom in turning around to see where we have been. Does looking back at your own path ever change how you see your future?
