The Weight of Gravity

In the physics of childhood, gravity seems to function differently. For the adult, the earth is a surface to be traversed, a series of obstacles to be navigated with caution and measured steps. We walk with the heavy awareness of our own bones, the friction of our shoes, and the persistent pull of the ground. But watch a child in motion, and you see a creature that has not yet agreed to the terms of the physical world. They leap as if the air were a solid thing, pushing off the soil with a trust that is almost reckless. It is a defiance of the inevitable. We spend our lives learning how to land, how to soften the impact of our own weight, yet there is a fleeting, golden window where the body is merely a vessel for momentum. Is it the ground that holds us, or is it our own hesitation that keeps us tethered to the dust?

Prasanta Singha has captured this fleeting defiance in the image titled Playtime. It is a reminder of the days when we all knew how to fly before we learned how to fall. Does this image stir a memory of your own weightless years?
