Seoul Lights by Dimitrios Zavos

On a frigid final evening in Seoul, the photographer ascended Namsan mountain to capture the city’s nocturnal transformation. Facing sub-zero temperatures, the photographer improvised a stabilizing support using a jacket to execute a precise 20-second long exposure. This creative determination allowed for a crisp, luminous capture of the urban sprawl despite the harsh conditions. The resulting image is award-worthy for its technical discipline and the evocative way it renders the vibrant, sprawling lights of the South Korean capital against the deep, cold stillness of the night sky.

Reflections on this Photograph
By Marta Vidal

The Geography of Distant Glows

I keep a small, tarnished brass key in a velvet pouch, though I have long since forgotten which door it once opened. It is heavy, cold to the touch, and carries the faint, metallic scent of a house that no longer exists.

The Pulse of the Dark

I spent an hour tonight trying to find my keys in the dark. I kept bumping into the side table, knocking over a stack of mail, and feeling that familiar, rising irritation. It is so easy to feel lost when you cannot see the edges of the room.

So, this is the country where my uncle Donny gave his young life. He was decorated a hero, posthumously, at age eighteen. Seoul has soul; nor does it look dangerous to me! What a zephyrean, idyllic scene! Thank you!

Hello Robert. What a fantastic comment to make and a sad, yet beautiful story to share. Thousands of young, brave men perished during the Korean War, but they will live forever in the memories of their families and loved ones. Let us pray that the Korean peninsula will not be scarred by more conflicts in the years to come and that wiser minds will prevail. It would be a tragedy for the people who are some of the most polite and warm I have ever met in my travels. Thank you so much for your beautiful comment.
