Since 2010, we have upheld a consistent standard in recognizing authentic photography. For more than a decade, we have been one of the very few institutions to strictly maintain these principles, ensuring that every photograph we honor captures the world as it truly is. Our guidelines help photographers see the world differently and communicate their unique perspective, while maintaining a universal standard for visual art. This principle is not meant to limit creativity, but to preserve the emotional connection a photographer builds with their subject.

Without such a standard, photography risks losing its true essence — drifting into heavy manipulation, trends, or manufactured realities that replace what was genuinely there. That is why, when selecting photographs for this award, we follow authentic photography standards precisely, honoring works that capture the world as it truly is.

The Standard We Follow

All our programs — including Master’s of Science and Master’s of Art in Photojournalism, B.S. in Photography, and B.F.A. in Photojournalism — have followed the same philosophy of enduring authenticity. Specialized Diplomas in Fundamentals of Photography, Food, Nature, and Portrait Photography equip photographers to create images with lasting impact. Through awards, education, research, and distance learning, Light & Composition University continues shaping the future of photography for generations to come.

Fair & Independent Judgment

All submitted photographs are reviewed by our international juries. They independently score each image within 3–7 working days. Any photograph scoring above 50 out of 80 qualifies for the prestigious Photo of the Day award.

Judges work completely autonomously and never see photographers’ names or personal details during the judging process, ensuring 100% fairness, artistic integrity, and transparency.

80-Point Jury Evaluation Rubric

Each photograph is independently evaluated across 5 core dimensions totaling 80 points:

Value

Emotional resonance, storytelling depth, and human significance.

Clarity

Visual precision, focus intentionality, and compositional clarity.

Composition

Balance, framing, geometric rhythm, and mastery of light.

Style

Distinctive artistic signature and visual voice.

Skill

Technical execution, exposure mastery, and handling of medium.
