The Wisdom of Stillness

There is a rhythm to the wild that we often mistake for indifference. We move through the world with such urgency, our footsteps heavy and our intentions loud, that we fail to notice the ancient, quiet intelligence watching us from the periphery. To truly see, one must learn to dissolve into the background, to become as steady as the stone or the branch. It is a practice of patience, a way of offering the world enough space to reveal its secrets without fear. When we stop chasing the moment and instead allow it to arrive on its own terms, we find that the distance between ourselves and the living earth begins to shrink. There is a profound grace in waiting, in letting the pulse of the forest or the sun-warmed earth dictate the pace of our observation. In that surrender, we are no longer observers of a separate world, but participants in a shared, breathing silence.

Escael Arsenio Marrero Avila has captured this quiet grace in the image titled Iguana. The way the creature holds its ground reminds me that beauty is often found in the moments we choose to remain perfectly still. May we all find such peace in the presence of the wild.
