Home Reflections The Weight of Falling

The Weight of Falling

Gravity is often spoken of as a tether, a heavy hand that keeps us pinned to the earth, ensuring our feet remain firmly planted in the soil of the familiar. We spend our lives negotiating with this invisible force, building structures that resist it and walking paths that honor it. Yet, there is a strange, quiet rebellion in the act of letting go. To surrender to the pull is not necessarily to lose control; it is to enter into a different kind of dialogue with the air itself. When we leave the solid ground, the world below ceases to be a place of destination and becomes, instead, a map of possibilities. The horizon shifts. The noise of the street fades into a singular, rushing hum. We are reminded that we are not merely creatures of the earth, but temporary visitors to the sky, suspended for a heartbeat in the vast, indifferent blue. If we were to stop fighting the descent, would we find that the air holds us more tenderly than the ground ever did?

Skydivers by Chris Horner

Chris Horner has captured this suspension in his image titled Skydivers. It is a reminder that even in the midst of a rapid descent, there is a moment of profound stillness to be found. Does the sky feel like a home or a challenge to you?
