The Weight of Bare Feet

I spent this morning trying to find a pair of shoes that didn’t pinch my heels. It felt like a chore, another small box to check before I could start my day. Then, I caught sight of a neighbor’s child running across the grass, completely unbothered by the ground beneath them. They weren’t thinking about comfort or protection; they were just moving, their feet hitting the earth with a rhythm that felt entirely free. It made me realize how much we trade for the sake of being prepared. We spend so much of our adult lives bracing for the next step, layering ourselves in armor, and worrying about the terrain. Somewhere along the way, we lose that simple, reckless trust in the ground. We forget that it is possible to move through the world without constantly checking for obstacles. When was the last time you felt the texture of the world without putting something between you and it?

Childhood Days by Joy Acharyya

Joy Acharyya has captured this exact feeling of unburdened movement in the image titled Childhood Days. It is a beautiful reminder of how light we can be when we stop worrying about where we are going. Does this scene bring back any specific memories of your own youth?
