The Weight of a Voice

We carry our own private worlds in our pockets. A thin wire, a signal, a voice from somewhere else. It is a strange thing to stand in a crowd and yet be entirely elsewhere, tethered to a ghost who speaks from a distance. We are surrounded by others, yet we walk inside these invisible bubbles, our faces turned toward the unseen. The city is loud, but the loudest thing is the silence of the person standing right beside you, listening to a conversation you cannot hear. We are all waiting for a signal. We are all waiting to be heard by someone who is not here. Does the air between us grow heavier when we speak to the absent, or does it simply thin out, leaving us more alone than we were before?

Phone Call by Shin Woo

Shin Woo has captured this quiet isolation in the image titled Phone Call. It is a reminder of how we drift through the world, connected to everything and anchored to nothing. Do you ever wonder who is waiting on the other end of your own silence?
