The Glass Between Souls

Is it possible to truly witness another life when a barrier stands between us? We often mistake observation for connection, believing that if we look long enough, we might understand the internal landscape of another. Yet, there is a profound silence that exists when two beings meet across an invisible divide. We project our own stories onto the eyes of the other, searching for a mirror of our own humanity, while the creature on the other side remains anchored in a reality we can never fully inhabit. We are all, in some sense, behind glass—trapped by the limitations of our own perceptions and the structures we build to keep the wild at bay. We seek to capture the essence of a soul, but perhaps we only ever capture the reflection of our own curiosity. When the gaze is returned, does it see us, or does it see the cage we have constructed for the world?

Romeo by Silvia Casali

Silvia Casali has captured this heavy stillness in her photograph titled Romeo. It reminds us that every life has a weight that no lens can fully carry. Does this image make you feel like an observer, or are you the one being watched?
