Lattice and Light

In traditional Japanese architecture, the shoji screen is not built to block the light, but to soften it, turning the harsh glare of noon into a warm, gentle presence that fills the room without burning. When light passes through a screen or a lattice, it does something extraordinary: it reveals the geometry of the space, drawing intricate patterns of shadow across the floor that shift slowly with the turning of the sun. We spend so much energy pursuing total brightness, but true beauty often resides in the half-light, in the subtle dance where shadow gives form and texture to the radiance.

The Art of Shadows by Hariprasad Chandran

Hariprasad Chandran explores this sublime balance in his photograph titled The Art of Shadows. The geometric grace of light filtering through the screen is mesmerizing. Do you find comfort in the gentle interplay of light and shade in your own home?
