The Body of Work: Curating a Portfolio That Speaks for You
For over a decade the University has awarded photographs on their true aesthetic standard, and in all those years one lesson has repeated itself more than any other: the photographer is almost never the best judge of their own work — until they are taught to be. That teaching is what this course delivers. You will learn to recognize your best artistic work from the core of art rather than borrowed ideology; you will walk the great fields — portrait, street, photojournalism, documentary, landscape, travel — not as a tourist but as a professional deciding where your body of work lives; you will master the edit, the sequence, and the narrative of the turning page; and you will build the three bodies your portfolio must inhabit — the print box, the photobook, and the screen. This is the first course of the Master's program because everything that follows it — the aesthetic mind, the ethics of the professional — will be argued through the body of work you begin assembling here.
