For me, looking through the viewfinder is looking into a magical world. In a world without color, in a world dominated by light, shadow and gray tones. Into the magical world of black and white photography. Black and white photography focuses on the essentials. It highlights the beauty of the subject. It stimulates the viewer's imagination. A black and white photograph sometimes expresses more than 1000 words can describe.

In the past two years we have had to realise that our planet does not have infinite capacity. That our nature and our environment need our help and protection. Already, 1200 animal species and about 35000 different plant species are irreversibly wiped out every year. Our children and grandchildren will only know some plant and animal species from photos. Let us not waste any more time! It is time to act - now!

Hope for a Better Time by Kirsten Bruening
When I posted this photo on Twitter, one of the first comments was: "this photo gives me hope for better times." A young woman smiling and walking down the street without a mask. A person who shows that a smile is possible even in these difficult times. A smile costs so little and can give so much. A smile can make so many people happy, a smile can give hope. And there is hope, hope for a better tomorrow.
