A 150mm lens at f/5.6 suggests a photographer keeping their distance, perhaps to avoid disturbing the scene. It’s a clean frame, certainly, but one wonders if Wierzbicki spent the afternoon in the sand or merely ducked out of a nearby cafΓ©. I’ve spent enough hours waiting for the tide to turn to know that isolation is often bought with sweat. It’s a decent shot, but I’d have liked to see him get a bit closer to the heat.

I’m genuinely frustrated that Wierzbicki didn’t lean into the 150mm compression to turn that background into a painterly smear. It’s closer to Sugimoto’s long-exposure theatres than travel reportage, yet it clings to clarity. What did he choose not to resolve? I’d have traded that crispness for a ghost.
