Explore the Very Moments of Our Presence on This Earth

The journey of Photo of the Day is endless, from one continent to the next, a journey that gives one an understanding of people, nature, and culture. We believe, when one feels it from the heart and captures the moment with their camera, it becomes iconic, which is special to share with the whole world. Let’s share it with others.

The Loneliness by Kirsten Bruening

The Loneliness by Kirsten Bruening

This photograph was taken during the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It shows a lonely city during the late afternoon. Under normal circumstances the streets would be filled with life, people would be on the streets doing their shopping. Today it is only quiet, quiet and lonely and only a few people get lost in the city.

I took this long exposure photo using 17mm wide lens and natural grey filter that allows exposure to be extended by the factor of a thousand (DolDer X-Pro Series Slim Neutral Density Filter ND 1000). Exposure settings was 27 minutes. I was standing in the shallow water using tripod and waiting for a photo for over 27 minutes (noise reduction time included).
Chilli and Spice Makes Everything Nice by Keshia Sophia

When I think of spices, I think warmth and flavour. I think heat. Nothing expresses this more that deep red food. I absolutely adore Dukkah as a seasoning and love adding it to my eggs and vegetables. Between the texture and the colours, It makes for an interesting photographic subject. I wanted to showcase the colours while also nodding to its complimentary role so I used a shallow depth of field to highlight the dukkah. The hint of chilli in the background added the story of the dish.
