Symmetry by Kirsten Bruening
The word symmetry comes from the Greek and means regularity. This makes it clear that symmetry originally did not mean what we understand by it today, but more generally a well-proportioned, moderate and harmonious design. Only in the course of history did symmetry then become the point symmetry or axis symmetry known to us, i.e. objects are mirrored identically at a point or an axis.
