Friends at Sunset by Ronnie Glover

Captured along the Coastal Trail during a late-night sunset, this image masterfully utilizes the golden hour to frame a group of friends engaged in conversation. By stepping back, the photographer transformed the subjects into striking silhouettes against the vibrant, fading light, creating a sense of intimacy and timelessness. This photograph is award-worthy for its evocative use of negative space and natural lighting, which turns a simple social moment into a poignant narrative about human connection within the vast, serene landscape of Alaska.

Ronnie Glover

REGISTERED PHOTOGRAPHER

Photography took a backseat while Ronnie obtained his college degree. After graduation, he purchased his first camera but was unable to produce the images that he saw in his mind. He then took a few continuing education classes to learn the technical aspects of the camera and realized there was so much more to learn about photography. So Ronnie enrolled in the professional program at Southeastern Center for the Arts in Atlanta. The school was operated by Jeanne & Neil Chaput de Saintonge, who currently operate Rocky Mountain School of Photography. He spent 14 years living in Alaska and this gave him unbelievable opportunities to experience nature and capture many images. Ronnie also enjoys sports and travel photography and the experience of different cultures.

Reflections on this Photograph
By Margaret Holt

The Weight of Shadows

In the northern latitudes, the sun does not simply set; it lingers, reluctant to surrender the day to the dark. There is a peculiar physics to this hesitation.

The Weight of Shadows

We are taught that to be seen is to be known. We stand in the light, turning our faces toward the sun, hoping the details of our lives will be recorded. But there is a different truth in the shadows.
