Photographing Estonia

Estonia represents a tranquil meeting point between Nordic wilderness and Baltic Hanseatic history. Over half the country is carpeted in pristine boreal forest and ancient raised peat bogs, where boardwalk trails lead to mirror-still bog pools veiled in early morning mist. In eastern Ida-Viru County, sites like Kuremäe house historic Russian Orthodox convents with gilded cupolas framed by tall birch forests. Along the coast and across more than two thousand islands, wooden lighthouses and coastal meadows offer serene minimalist perspectives under the soft, protracted light of high-latitude summers.
