You and Me by Leanne LindsayYou and Me by Leanne Lindsay
The vibrant orange gerbera captures the joy of receiving a beautiful bouquet from my husband. I took my time to get the perfect shot, trying out various still life arrangements and photography techniques throughout the afternoon. I gravitated towards this final image and its creativity. I utilized a mirror to create a reflection of the flower, adding depth and intrigue to the composition. The textured background complements the flower's boldness, providing contrast. Still life photography can be a great way to hone your technical skills and experiment with different creative elements and this afternoon, I learned so much. It allowed me to control the lighting, background, and composition, giving me the freedom to explore different artistic effects. This photograph shows how everyday objects can be transformed into captivating works of art.
Sail the Seven Seas by Leanne LindsaySail the Seven Seas by Leanne Lindsay
Will you sail the seven seas with me? The rain was putting on a steady performance outside my window this afternoon, and I felt a surge of creative energy. It was the perfect opportunity to take out my camera and play with some of its features I hadn't quite gotten around to yet. I also had this idea for a photo that had been brewing for a while, and today felt like the right day to bring it to life!
So, I grabbed an old book and a well-loved paper boat, the kind I used to make as a kid. Strangely enough, when I opened the book randomly, it happened to open up to an ancient map of the world. I arranged the book and boat on a table near the window, letting the soft, diffused light from the rain-covered sky bathe them in a gentle glow.
Focusing on a shallow depth of field helped blur the background and really make the paper boat the star of the show, creating a miniature world for the little paper boat to sail in.
Dance of the Jellyfish by Leanne LindsayDance of the Jellyfish by Leanne Lindsay
I found myself there recently, guiding my grandchildren through the intricacies of their new DSLRs in manual mode, at the Sydney Aquarium. One exhibit, however, stopped us all in our tracks. Within a darkened tank, three jellyfish drifted serenely. Their translucent forms, illuminated, revealed intricate details of their ballet skirts and iridescent tentacles. They pulsed with a gentle rhythm, creating the illusion of an underwater ballet. The vibrant colours of their bodies glowed against the inky darkness, a truly captivating spectacle. Their mesmerizing movements held me spellbound. It was no wonder my grandchildren were captivated, their cameras poised to capture the perfect image. These ethereal creatures offered a perfect subject for their photographic exploration, a testament to the wonders that lie beneath the surface. Perhaps, amongst their attempts, they too captured a moment as captivating as this 'Dance of the Jellyfish'.
