A Backward Glance
Anyone who has ever walked a dog down an open lane knows that backward glance. They run ahead twenty yards, kick up a plume of dust, and then spin around to look at you with ears pricked, making sure you are still following the adventure. In that look, there is no suspicion, no calculation; only the pure, uncomplicated joy of shared companionship. We walk through the world worrying about thirty different responsibilities, while the creature beside us understands the whole purpose of the morning: to feel the dirt beneath four paws and to check that your human is still in sight.

Aman Raj Sharma captures that delightful, whimsical perspective in his photograph titled The Chasing. The playful shift in scale brings an immediate smile to the face. Who is the loyal friend who always looks back to make sure you’re keeping up?
