Before the Tide Turns
There is a particular stillness that exists only over moving water at dawn. Long before the day begins demanding things of us, the river is already flowing, indifferent to our anxieties and generous with its space. I think of the hours I have spent trying to steer my own life upstream, fighting currents that were never meant to be conquered. The river does not rush to prove its depth; it simply moves with the contours of the earth. In watching those whose daily survival depends on reading the water’s quiet moods, we are reminded of an older wisdom: that peace is not the absence of movement, but the willingness to drift where life naturally opens.

This photograph by Shahnaz Parvin, ‘Casting Hope Across the Flowing Tide’, captures that exact sacred pause on the water. It asks nothing of us except that we look long enough to remember our own quiet depths. Does it bring a particular river back to your memory?
