The World Beneath Our Feet
I was walking to the post office this morning when I stopped dead in my tracks. A heavy rain had just passed, leaving a jagged, dark pool right in the middle of the sidewalk. I almost stepped right through it, but then I looked down. The entire sky was trapped in that small, muddy patch of water. It turned the gray concrete into a window, showing me clouds and buildings I hadn’t even bothered to look up at. It is strange how we spend our days staring straight ahead, focused on the next errand or the next turn, while the world repeats itself in the most overlooked places. We walk over beauty constantly, our eyes fixed on the horizon, missing the way the earth tries to show us a different version of reality. If we stopped to look at the ground more often, would we find that we are walking through a much larger world than we ever imagined?

José J. Rivera-Negrón has captured this exact feeling in his image titled Urban Mirror. It is a beautiful reminder to look down once in a while. What do you see when you look at the ground beneath you?
