The Weight of a Flame

I burned a candle on my desk this morning, just to watch the wick struggle against the draft from the window. It felt like a small, private act of defiance against the gray weather outside. We spend so much of our lives trying to keep our own inner lights steady, shielding them from the winds of expectation or the simple exhaustion of the day. It is strange how a tiny flicker can change the entire mood of a room, turning a mundane workspace into a place of quiet contemplation. We often forget that devotion isn’t always a grand gesture or a loud proclamation. Sometimes, it is just the act of holding something steady, of refusing to let the flame go out when the air gets cold. I wonder if we are all just carrying these small, invisible fires, hoping that someone else might notice the warmth we are trying to protect. What is the light you are currently shielding from the wind?
