The Rhythm of the Yield

We are taught that to survive is to stand firm, to plant our roots deep into the soil and refuse to move when the wind turns cold. Yet, there is a profound, quiet power in the act of folding. Think of the way a leaf curls inward as the sun retreats, or how the tide pulls back to let the shore breathe. To yield is not to surrender; it is a choreography of necessity. It is the wisdom of knowing when to pull the edges of your life inward, creating a narrow passage for the heavy, iron-willed forces that must pass through. We spend so much energy guarding our borders, forgetting that the most resilient things are those that can bend without breaking, those that can shrink to make room for the inevitable, only to bloom outward again the moment the danger has passed. What would happen if we treated our own obstacles not as walls, but as passing trains, waiting for the iron to clear so we might reclaim our space?

Maeklong Railway Track by Ryszard Wierzbicki

Ryszard Wierzbicki has captured this delicate dance in his work titled Maeklong Railway Track. It is a beautiful reminder of how we all learn to tuck our lives away just long enough to let the world move on. Does your own life have a rhythm of folding and unfolding?
