The Salt in the Breath

We carry the day like a heavy coat, buttoned tight against the cooling air, until we reach the edge of the world where the land finally gives up its claim. There is a specific alchemy in the transition between the heat of the sun and the rising tide of the evening. It is the hour when the shadows stretch their limbs, reaching for the water as if to wash away the dust of our errands. We walk not to arrive anywhere, but to let the rhythm of our own footsteps sync with the pulse of the horizon. In this space, the heavy things we carry—the unspoken words, the lingering anxieties, the sharp edges of our routines—begin to soften, dissolving into the salt-thickened air. We are merely silhouettes against a vast, deepening blue, small enough to be forgotten, yet large enough to hold the entire sky in our lungs. If we stopped moving, would the tide simply fold us into the evening, or would we finally become part of the light?
