The Weight of Stillness

I spent this morning trying to fix a wobbly chair in the kitchen. I kept tightening the screws, but the floor in my apartment is just uneven enough that the chair never quite settles. It’s a small, nagging thing that makes me want to rush through my breakfast just to get up and move. Eventually, I gave up and sat on the floor instead. Down there, the world feels different. The dust motes dance in the light, and the rush of the day feels like a distant hum rather than a demand. We spend so much of our lives trying to balance on things that don’t quite fit, always bracing ourselves for the next tilt. But there is a quiet power in just sitting still, letting the ground hold you exactly as you are, without needing to fix a single thing. It makes me wonder if we are only ever truly at peace when we stop trying to level the ground beneath us.

Nirupam Roy has captured this exact sense of stillness in the image titled Watching the Scenic Beauty. It reminds me that sometimes the most profound moments happen when we simply stop and look at the horizon. Does this scene make you feel like sitting down for a while?
