Finding Balance on Water
I spent this morning trying to fix a wobbly chair in my kitchen. I kept shifting my weight, trying to find that one perfect angle where the legs would finally stop clicking against the floor. It felt impossible. Every time I thought I had it, the slightest movement would throw everything off balance again. It made me think about how much of our lives is spent just trying to stay upright on shifting ground. We are always adjusting, always compensating for the tilt of the world beneath us. We think we need a solid foundation to be steady, but maybe stability isn’t about being fixed in one place. Maybe it is about the constant, quiet dance of moving with the instability instead of fighting it. When we stop bracing for the fall, we might find that we can actually stand on the surface of things that seem impossible to hold onto. What is the one thing in your life that requires you to keep shifting your weight just to stay steady?

Ryszard Wierzbicki has captured this beautiful sense of poise in his image titled Inle Lake Fisherman. It is a striking reminder of how we find our footing in the most unlikely places. Does this image make you feel steady or restless?
