Home Reflections The Weight of Light

The Weight of Light

We spend our lives waiting for the sun to touch the earth. We build walls, we mark calendars, we measure the hours in shadows that grow long and thin. Then, for a moment, the light arrives. It does not ask for permission. It simply settles upon the stone and the water, turning the cold world into something that glows. It is a brief, heavy warmth. It reminds us that we are only visitors here, passing through a landscape that existed long before our arrival and will remain long after we have turned away. We think we own the view, but the view is merely a witness to our own fleeting presence. When the light fades, we are left with the memory of the gold, and the silence that follows is deeper than the one that came before. Does the mountain remember the sun, or is it only the water that keeps the secret?

The sun was here! by Zahraa Al Hassani
